how to get out of a running funk

I had the worst run ever yesterday.  I procrastinated FOREVER, and finally went running exactly 90 minutes before the Blackhawks game started.  I had 90 minutes on the schedule.

Long story short, I felt awful the ENTIRE time.  I only made it 60 minutes, and even that felt horrible.  I somehow ran really fast (avg pace 8:11).  How the hell did that happen?!

I got home and pouted for the rest of the day.  I hated running... which isn't cool in general, and definitely isn't cool on the last day of the training week.

So then I got to thinking... HOW DO YOU GET OUT OF A RUNNING FUNK?

Step 1:  Have a beer and a good meal after the crappy run, because, after all, you still ran nearly 7.5 miles.

Step 2:  The next day, wear a new pair of shoes (or a different pair of shoes, as I realize not everyone has a shoe tower) and a race shirt from a race where you either had an amazing time or RAN an amazing time.

Step 3:  Get your butt out the door and run!

I wore these shoes and a shirt from this race, which I ran with Renee and had the most amazing time ever.  I even have the picture on my shelf to prove it.  And guess what?  IT WORKED.  I had a great run today and completely changed my outlook on this week's workouts.  It's all a matter of perspective!

  1. Nice pace for a crappy run! I think #1 and #3 work best for me. I am too nervous to switch up shoes.
